MFL SKE

Our MFL SKE courses in French, Spanish and German are for prospective teachers who have an offer for teacher training in those subjects with completing a SKE as one of the conditions in their PGCE or SD offer.  Our MFL SKE courses are supported by online one to one lessons with experienced language specialists (practising teachers) and weekly conversations with a native speaker to practice and develop your spoken language.

Click on one of the languages below to learn more about the online platform, one to one native speaker Skype calls, the one to one workshops with a qualified teacher and unlimited small group tutorials arranged at convenient times for you.

Why French, Spanish or German Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE)?

SKE is often described as a booster course, as they are designed to strengthen and enhance your existing knowledge.

Completing an MFL SKE course with Eureka Online College will allow you to practise your specialist language as you learn it, so that you can build your vocabulary with confidence and in the knowledge that you have the correct pronunciation in your spoken language - especially important to have this reassurance before ‘performing’ in the classroom.

Your university or school will make this assessment at an interview or even before during a school visit perhaps.  For the course to be funded by the DfE, your ITT provide will need to ensure that completing a French, Spanish or German SKE is made a specific condition of your conditional offer.

Somthing that is good to know is that we offer the full range of SKE course lengths, from 8 to 28 weeks (and up to 36 weeks if you study 2 languages).

Michael McCusker

Spanish SKE Tutor

QTS Gained in 2011

Qualification

  • BA (Hons) French and Hispanic Studies
  • PGCE (Secondary) in French and Spanish

I am an experienced SKE tutor and teacher of Spanish and French. I currently work as Head of MFL in a mixed comprehensive secondary school, managing a team which has dramatically increased the profile of languages across the school. In my current role, I am responsible for the planning of the curriculum at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level, as well as ensuring that this is consistently delivered across the department.

Throughout my teaching career, I have successfully mentored trainee MFL teachers, celebrating their successes as well as identifying and working together to develop any areas of improvement. As an MFL teacher, I am a strong advocate of the use of grammar as the foundation to learning a language, as well as ensuring that students are aware of the key phonics of the language to aide their oral proficiency.

I believe that language learning should be delivered in a fun and enthusiastic way, adapted to the ability and needs of the learner, with a lot of focus on exposing students to the richness of the language, as well as the culture of the countries in which the language is spoken. Over the last four years, I have enjoyed sharing my classroom experiences and subject pedagogy with students on their Spanish SKE course, developing their own subject knowledge as well as offering an insight into outstanding classroom practice.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and I have an interest in most sports, especially watching and playing football.
